J.T. Poston and Matti Schmid have emerged as the leaders at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, their strong second-round performances putting them ahead of the competition. Poston’s round, highlighted by a flurry of birdies and an eagle on the final six holes, solidified his position at the top of the leaderboard. Schmid, also playing well, matched Poston’s score with a bogey-free round.

The tournament has been significantly impacted by high winds, which have caused delays and made scoring conditions challenging for many players. The wind gusts, reaching speeds of nearly 50 mph, forced a four-hour delay on Friday and have continued to affect play throughout the week. Despite the difficult conditions, Poston and Schmid have managed to navigate the course effectively, taking advantage of scoring opportunities and minimizing mistakes.

Rico Hoey, who was trailing the first-round leader Taylor Pendrith, has moved into third place after a solid round. However, the defending champion, Tom Kim, has unfortunately missed the cut, along with other notable players like Patton Kizzire, Kevin Yu, and Matt McCarty, who have all won events this fall.

The tournament is now entering its final stages, with the leaders looking to maintain their advantage and secure a victory in the face of challenging conditions. The remaining players will have to contend with the wind and the pressure of the leaderboard as they strive to make a late charge and claim the title.
